Indonesia Extends the Domestic Travel Ban from 22nd April until 24th May

On the 21st April a new circular letter was issued advising the domestic travel ban will be extended prior and post the previous announcement given in regards to dates 6th – 17th May.

The original dates set were made in retrospect of the Eid Al-Fitr period whereby millions of people migrate across Indonesia to be with family and loved ones during the holy month; however, due to increases in Covid spread, the Covid 19 Task force has imposed additional bans 2 weeks prior to the period as well as 1 week after.

So, what does this mean for people travelling around Indonesia?

During this new extended period, people may still travel between destinations, albeit with stricter protocols in place which include:

A negative RT-PCR or rapid test antigen test result taken within a maximum period of 24 hours before departure, or a certificate of a negative result of a GeNose C19 test at the airport or railway station before departure.

Who can still travel during 22nd April – 5th May & 18th – 24th May?

Those that are travelling for urgent needs, which include: work or official travel, visits to sick or bereaved family, pregnant women, a maximum of 2 people to assist child birth and certain non travellers who have obtained permission from local authorities.
