While Ed Sheeran may have grabbed the headlines, he was not the first artist to benefit from the recently introduced type of entertainment visa.

Coldplay and K-pop giants TWICE were among the early adopters of this visa, which streamlines the entry process for musicians and their crews. This simplified system makes it easier for international talents to perform in Indonesia, fostering a more vibrant and diverse music scene.

But what is exactly the Music Performer Visa, and how would it benefit the international performers making their entry to the country? This article, Lets Move Indonesia breaks down everything you need to know about the new Indonesia visa.

What is the Music Performer Visa in Indonesia?

The Entertainment Visa, officially known as the Music Performer Visa, is a welcome change for artists and event organizers. This visa falls under the index of C7, categorised into two different categories – index C7A and C7B.

This visa caters specifically to foreign artists and arts professionals visiting Indonesia for professional engagements. It simplifies the application process compared to previous visa types.

Types of Music Performer Visas

The Music Performer Visa falls under three categories (C7, C7A, and C7B). The specific visa type required depends on your role (artist, crew member, etc.)

C7A Visa (for Performers and Other Stage Artists)

This visa is specifically designed for musicians and lead performers. It allows them to enter Indonesia for the purpose of engaging in authorised music and entertainment events (solo concerts, festivals, etc)

C7B Visa (Crew Visa)

This C7B music performer’s crew visa is intended for supporting crew members who are essential to the performance to work behind the scenes, such as sound technicians, lighting technicians, personal assistants, people responsible for logistics and stage managers. It allows them to enter Indonesia to assist the lead performers in their artistic endeavours.

Who Can Apply for a Music Performer Visa?

Indonesia’s Performer Visa is designed for foreign artists and performers who wish to enter the country and participate in music and art events. The following subjects are the ones eligible to use the Performer Visa:

Musicians, including singers, instrumentalists, bands, DJs, and other musical performers. Performance Artists, such as visual artists (painters, sculptors, etc.), performing artists (dancers, actors, etc.), and other creative professionals participating in exhibitions or performances.

The application for the Performer Visa is typically submitted by the event organiser or promoter in Indonesia on behalf of the foreign artists. Furthermore, the artist may need to provide supporting documents such as a performance contract, invitation letter, and portfolio/demo reel showcasing their work.

Visa requirements and procedures can change, so it’s always best to consult with the official Indonesian immigration authorities or a reliable visa consultant for the latest information and specific requirements for your situation.

How Long Can I Stay With This Visa?

The Music Performer Visa allows its holder to enter, stay, and conduct activities in Indonesia for about 60 days of validity and is extendable for two times.

Requirements for a Music Performer Visa?

The Entertainment Visa streamlines the application process by removing the need for documents like Indonesian insurance receipts and return tickets, previously required for visa applications. Having a reputable Indonesian entertainment company sponsor you can help streamline the visa application process.

What are the differences between Visa Performer (C7) and Impresario Visa (Impresario KITAS)?

The Performer Visa Indonesia is a Single Entry Visa Single Entry

The Performer Visa (C7) usually comes with a shorter duration, typically a 60-day period suitable for performances or events. In contrast, the Impresario KITAS allows for longer-term stays in Indonesia – up to 180 days enabling individuals to manage and oversee cultural or artistic projects over an extended period.

Performer Visa does not support a long term promotion activities

The Performer Visa (C7) is the type of visa for international artists who are invited to Indonesia to perform in music concerts or other exhibitions and festivals. It is suitable for those who will be involved in specific performances or events, such as concerts, theatre productions, or music festivals.

The Impresario KITAS, on the other hand, is intended for individuals who are involved in the management, organisation, or promotion of cultural events in Indonesia. This visa is suitable for event organisers, producers, and cultural managers who need to stay in Indonesia for an extended period to oversee their projects.

Only eligible for Artists and Performers

While the Performer Visa (C7) is specifically for individuals who will be performing in Indonesia, the Impresario KITAS offers a broader scope of activities. Impresario KITAS holders can engage in various roles related to the cultural and artistic scene, including managing artists, organising events, and overseeing cultural exchange programs.

Feature C7 Visa Impresario KITAS
Duration Short-term Long-term
Purpose Specific performances Broader business activities
Eligibility Artists, musicians, performers Business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs
Visa Type Temporary Stay Permit Permanent Stay Permit

The appropriate visa depends on the specific needs and goals of the individual or organisation. If you are a foreign artist or performer planning a short-term visit to Indonesia, a C7 Visa is the most suitable option.

However, if you intend to establish a long-term presence in Indonesia and engage in various business activities, an Impresario KITAS is the better choice.
