EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) is an identity number issued by the Directorate General of Taxes to taxpayers to conduct electronic transactions, including online tax obligations e-Filing. EFIN is useful as an authentication tool so that every tax return (SPT) that you send can be encrypted, ensuring confidentiality.
A company may obtain an EFIN by submitting an application to the relevant Tax Office, supported by corporate documents such as the Deed of Establishment, company NPWP, identification of directors, and a power of attorney if required. Once issued, the EFIN must be activated to access the online tax system. Proper guidance during this process helps minimize errors, particularly for foreign-owned companies navigating Indonesian administrative procedures.
EFIN is mandatory for all corporate taxpayers in Indonesia, including PT PMA and entities with foreign ownership. While the corporate EFIN is used for company tax filings, individual directors, including foreigners who qualify as Indonesian tax residents, may also require a personal EFIN to submit their individual SPT. This requirement ensures full compliance with Indonesian tax regulations.
EFIN serves as the primary access credential for submitting corporate SPT, including monthly and annual tax reports. Through the electronic systems of the Directorate General of Taxes, companies use EFIN to file corporate income tax, VAT, and withholding tax reports. Proper EFIN usage supports accurate and timely reporting, reducing compliance risks and exposure to penalties.
Common issues include delays in EFIN registration, inactive or misplaced EFIN credentials, and discrepancies between company data and tax system records. These issues can result in late SPT submissions and potential sanctions. Working with tax professionals provides guidance tailored to your specific business structure, helping ensure secure EFIN management and ongoing compliance with Indonesian corporate tax requirements.
