E31G Parent Visa Indonesia: Long-Term Stay Permit for Parents of Indonesian Citizens

For many families, living across different countries can make it difficult to stay connected. To support family reunification, Indonesian Immigration offers the E31G Parent Visa, a family-sponsored Limited Stay Visa specifically designed for foreign parents of Indonesian citizens (WNI).

The visa allows eligible parents to live in Indonesia for up to one or two years, with the flexibility to travel in and out of the country while the permit remains valid. Unlike short-term visit visas, the E31G visa provides a longer-term solution for parents wishing to spend time with their children, retire near family members, or establish a more permanent presence in Indonesia.

As Indonesia continues expanding its family-based immigration pathways, the E31G Parent Visa has become an increasingly attractive option for foreign nationals seeking to remain close to their Indonesian families.

What is the E31G Parent Visa?

The E31G Parent Visa is a Limited Stay Visa (Visa Tinggal Terbatas) granted to foreign parents of Indonesian citizens. The visa is sponsored by the Indonesian child and allows the parent to reside legally in Indonesia for an extended period.

In addition to family reunification, holders may also undertake educational activities, travel within Indonesia, visit friends and relatives, and enjoy tourism activities throughout the country.

One of the key advantages of this visa is that it includes a re-entry facility, allowing visa holders to leave and re-enter Indonesia without needing to apply for a new visa each time.

Key Benefits of the E31G Visa

  • Stay in Indonesia for up to 1 or 2 years
  • Multiple entry and exit privileges
  • Family-based sponsorship pathway
  • Online extension process
  • Opportunity to convert to another stay permit category
  • Suitable for long-term family reunification

Who Can Apply for the E31G Parent Visa?

The E31G visa is intended for foreign nationals who have a legally recognised parent-child relationship with an Indonesian citizen.

Eligible applicants may include:

  • Biological parents of Indonesian citizens
  • Parents of children born from mixed-nationality marriages
  • Adoptive parents of Indonesian citizens, subject to legal documentation

Applicants must provide evidence demonstrating the legal relationship between parent and child in accordance with Indonesian immigration regulations.

Duration of Stay

Applicants may choose between two stay permit options:

Stay Permit Option Duration
Limited Stay Permit 1 Year
Limited Stay Permit 2 Years

It is important to understand that the visa validity and stay permit duration are different.

The visa itself remains valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. This means the visa holder must enter Indonesia within that period. Once admitted by Immigration at the airport or port of entry, the Limited Stay Permit and Re-Entry Permit are automatically activated.

Sponsorship Requirements

Like most family-based visas in Indonesia, the E31G Parent Visa requires sponsorship.

The sponsor must be the applicant’s Indonesian citizen child, who will submit the application through the Indonesian Immigration e-Visa system.

The sponsor is responsible for:

  • Creating an account through the Immigration portal
  • Preparing the application documents
  • Submitting the visa request
  • Providing a sponsorship letter supporting the application

Without a valid sponsor, the application cannot proceed.

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare several supporting documents during the application process.

Standard Requirements

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Recent colour photograph
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Travel itinerary
  • Sponsorship letter from the Indonesian child

Financial Requirement

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial capability during their stay in Indonesia through:

  • Bank statements from the last three months
  • Minimum balance of USD 2,000 or equivalent

The account may belong either to the applicant or the sponsor.

Proof of Family Relationship

One of the most important requirements is evidence of the legal parent-child relationship.

Acceptable documents may include:

  • Indonesian birth certificate
  • Foreign birth certificate (translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator if not issued in English)
  • Legal adoption decree for adopted children

These documents must correspond with the information contained within the Indonesian child’s official family records.

Government Fees

The government fees depend on the selected permit duration.

One-Year Stay Permit

Fee Component Amount
Visa and Immigration Fees Included
Total Government Fee IDR 6,000,000

Two-Year Stay Permit

Fee Component Amount
Visa and Immigration Fees Included
Total Government Fee IDR 8,500,000

The total fee includes the Limited Stay Visa, verification fee, Limited Stay Permit, and Re-Entry Permit.

Application Process

Applications are submitted online through the Indonesian Immigration e-Visa platform.

The process generally follows these steps:

  1. Sponsor creates an Immigration account
  2. Required documents are uploaded
  3. The visa application is submitted
  4. Immigration reviews the documents
  5. Government fees are paid
  6. Visa approval is issued
  7. Applicant enters Indonesia

Under normal circumstances, processing takes approximately five working days after payment has been received.

What Activities Are Allowed?

The E31G Parent Visa provides considerable flexibility for long-term family stays. However, holders are not permitted to engage in activities that fall outside the scope of the permit.

Activities generally prohibited include:

  • Unauthorised employment
  • Selling goods or services
  • Commercial business operations without the appropriate permit

Compliance with Indonesian immigration regulations remains essential throughout the stay period.
