Extending Your Visa in Bali: A 2026 Guide to Indonesia Visa Extensions

A visa is required to visit Bali as it serves as an official authorization for foreign nationals to enter and stay in Indonesia for a specified period. This requirement ensures that visitors adhere to immigration regulations and contribute positively to the local economy and society. Without a visa, individuals risk being denied entry, deported, or facing other legal consequences.

Travelers planning to stay beyond the initial validity period of their visa must understand which visa can be extended. Overstaying a visa can result in fines, deportation, and potential difficulties with future travel to Indonesia. Familiarising oneself with extension options, travellers can ensure they remain compliant with Indonesian immigration laws and avoid unnecessary complications during their stay.

What visas are eligible for extension?

While you are still staying in Indonesia, you are offered a range of visa options. Notably, the online system now streamlines the application process. In Bali, the most popular ones to extend are:

  • Visa on Arrival (VoA) for another 30 days
  • Single Entry Visa (ex B211A – Type C), up to 180 days
  • KITAS, every one to two years
  • KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit), every 5 to 10 years

What are the general requirements to extend a visa?

  • A passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended extension period.
  • A confirmed address in Indonesia.
  • Recent bank statements demonstrating sufficient funds.
  • For some visas, such as the VoA, an outbound ticket from Indonesia.

Visa on Arrival (VoA)

The Visa on Arrival (VoA), is granted upon arrival to eligible travellers, and this visa allows validity for 30 days. A single extension for an additional 30 days can be obtained directly at the immigration office in Bali (Jimbaran, Denpasar, or Singaraja) for an additional fee of USD $32.

Citizens of specific countries can apply for a 60 day tourist visa directly online, which can be extended twice for an additional 60 days each time. However, the total stay cannot exceed 180 days.

Bali Tourist Visa Extension

Planning a longer trip? The Tourist Visa gives you 60 days to browse around and embark on your Bali tourism adventure. You can apply for this one either before you leave home at the Indonesian embassy or consulate, or once you’re in Bali at the Immigration Office. And if you’re still not ready to say goodbye, you can extend it further.

Indonesian Single Entry Business Visa Extension

Coming to Bali for business? The Single Entry Business Visa is valid for 60 days from when it’s issued and lets you enter Indonesia once for that period. Just like the Tourist Visa, you can apply at the official Indonesia immigration website or at the Immigration Office in Bali. Extensions are also possible.

Bali Social-Cultural Visa Extension

If you’re in Bali for studies, research, or cultural exchange, the Social-Cultural Visa is for you. It’s also a 60 day, single-entry visa that you can apply for in your home country or in Bali. And yes, you can extend it if you need more time.

KITAS Extension

KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) or ITAS holders can renew their permits online. Specific document requirements vary depending on the KITAS type, ensuring applicants meet the necessary criteria.

General ITAS Renewal Requirements

  • Passport with at least six months validity remaining.
  • Recent photograph.
  • Indonesian address.
  • SKTT (Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal) or domicile letter)
  • Sponsor documents, including KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk) of the sponsor.

Specific Requirements

Additional requirements may apply depending on your ITAS type, such as proof of investment for Investor KITAS, BPJS (social security) contributions for Working KITAS holders, and NPWP (taxpayer identification number) with proof of annual income tax payments.

New KITAS and KITAS Cancellation

If you plan to leave Indonesia, change jobs, or switch sponsors, you must cancel your current KITAS through an EPO (Exit Permit Only) application at least seven days before its expiration. Once canceled, you have seven days to leave the country and can then apply for a new KITAS.

If your KITAS expires while you’re outside of Indonesia, you’ll need to apply for an ERP (Exit Re-entry Permit) before applying for a new KITAS.

Renewal vs. New KITAS Application

It’s crucial to distinguish between a KITAS renewal and a new KITAS application. A renewal is applicable when you retain the same sponsor and KITAS type. A new KITAS application is necessary if you change your sponsor or the type of KITAS.
