Individual Tax Report is for employees who work in the private sector or state-owned companies, as well as employees working for the government or individuals residing in Indonesia.
The individual subject to pay the Individual or personal income Tax must first register to the Directorate General of Tax in order to acquire the Tax ID (NPWP).
The registration will require series of documents to be submitted bearing in mind that you will need to be wary of the frequent changes of the tax regulations in Indonesia.
It is compulsory for individuals to file the tax report to the Indonesian Tax Authority, which is required by the applicable Indonesian Law.
Personal income tax in Indonesia is a tax imposed on an individual’s income earned within a tax year. Every eligible taxpayer is required to file a Personal Tax Return, commonly referred to as an annual income tax return, to report income, allowable deductions, and the final tax payable in accordance with prevailing regulations.
Under Indonesian tax laws, taxable income includes all income received or accrued by an individual during the tax year, whether earned domestically or, in certain cases, from overseas sources. Individuals who qualify as tax residents must report their earnings through an income tax return in Indonesia, ensuring that all applicable tax obligations are properly declared and assessed.
Foreign individuals who qualify as Indonesian tax residents are classified as domestic tax subjects and are subject to Indonesian tax on their worldwide income. Those who are not residents are generally subject to foreign tax treatment and taxed only on Indonesia-sourced income.
Tax obligations may arise from employment, professional activities, or conducting business in Indonesia, depending on residency status and the nature of income earned.
The rate would be as follows:
Taxable Income Tax Rate
First Rp.50.000.000 5%
Between Rp.50.000.000 to Rp.250.000.000 15%
Between RP. 250.000.000 to Rp.500.000.000 25%
Over Rp.500.000.000 30%
The deadline for it to be processed would be on the 31st March of every year.
You are inclined to be charged with an extra 20% of your domestic tax obligations report. You could also deal with the enforcement authority which could subject to sentences according to the applicable law.
If you’re only leaving Indonesia temporarily, you are still obligated to file the Individual Taxpayer Report. However, if you’re leaving Indonesia permanently, you need to notify the Indonesian Tax Authority regarding your departure and your cancellation of your Tax Identification Number (NPWP).
