What is visa sponsorship?
Visa sponsorship means that during your visa application, you must obtain a recommendation from a local entity to act as your sponsor. A sponsor can be a local individual or a local company in the country. Here are several examples that show an overview of the eligible parties to be a visa sponsorship
- If you apply for a working visa, you would need a visa sponsorship letter from your employer or the legal local company that you will be working for.
- If you are married to an Indonesian citizen, your spouse will be a sponsor
- Social Visas are rather flexible. Any institution can be your sponsor for this type of visa.
- A legal local company you are conducting business activities for over 6 months or less can be your sponsor to obtain a Business Visa.
Types of visas and their sponsorship
Visa sponsorships issue sponsorship letters that must be submitted with your visa applications. Certain visas in Indonesia are required to obtain local sponsorship, these are the types of visas and the sponsors according to the relevant purposes.
Business Visa (Single Entry or Multiple Entry)
A business visa, depending on whether it is a Single Entry Visa or a Multiple Entry Visa, allows the holder to enter Indonesia one or more times.
A Single Entry Business Visa is valid for 60 days and is extendable 2 times each time further 60 days, while a Multiple Entry Business Visa is valid for 12 months. A Business Visa requires a sponsor from a local entity in Indonesia to conduct business meetings, seminars, workshops or company training.
Social Visa
A social and cultural visa is best to aid family visits, sociocultural exchange, or any type of short-term stay (e.g. cultural research). To get this visa, a person from Indonesia must be your visa sponsor.
Temporary or limited residence permit (KITAS)
Also known as Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas, KITAS refers to a residence permit card for a temporary or limited stay in Indonesia to work, retire and live in Indonesia. Each KITAS has a different length of validity that can be up to 6 to 12 months. This visa is available for renewal every 12 months, with a total validity of five years.
Unlike a visit visa, the KITAS has multiple re-entry permit (MERP) statuses for personal holders. Consequently, holders can freely enter and exit Indonesia at any time.

Permanent Resident Permit (KITAP)
A KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) refers to a permanent residence permit that allows the holder to stay in Indonesia for 5 years. There are a variety of KITAP options available depending on your circumstances.
