Bali Tourism Levy for Global Travellers
As of 2024, a new tourism levy has been introduced for international visitors travelling to Bali, aimed at supporting sustainable tourism and preserving the island’s cultural and natural heritage.
This regulation applies whether you are visiting on a new visa such as the tourist visa, Visa on Arrival (VoA), or even as part of a multiple-entry visa arrangement. The tourism levy is separate from visa fees and is applicable per entry. The Bali Provincial Government encourages travellers to pay the levy in advance online for a smoother entry process.
Bali Indonesia visa requirements
Bali visa requirements vary dramatically depending on the type of visa you are applying for. If you are entering Indonesia upon arrival, using a Visa on Arrival is an option, for example, the requirements are far simpler than if you are applying for a Working KITAS. All visa types can be applied for both onshore (within Indonesia) and offshore (outside Indonesia). General Entry Requirements for Short Travel to Indonesia
A Single Entry Visitor Visa is suitable for those who plan to visit Indonesia for tourism, social, or business purposes and intend to stay longer than what is allowed under the Visa on Arrival scheme. You must apply for this visa before arrival in Indonesia through an online system or an Indonesian embassy/consulate.
To apply, you’ll need a valid passport or travel document, such as:
- Scan Passport must be valid for at least 6 months (six months)
- Recent passport-sized photograph
- Travel Document
- Sponsor Letter
- Application form
- Address of stay in Indonesia
This visa allows for an initial stay of up to 60 days and can be extended up to 2 times, with each extension granting an additional 60 days, with a total stay of up to 180 days. It is ideal for longer visits without the hassle of exiting and re-entering the country.
Indonesia offers a convenient VoA option for eligible passport holders traveling for tourism, business, or family visits. Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can pay directly upon arrival at the immigration counter.
To qualify, you must prepare the following document:
- Scan Passport must be valid for at least 6 months (six months)
- Recent passport-sized photograph
- Travel Document
- Application form
- Address of stay in Indonesia
The VoA permits an initial stay of up to 30 days and can be extended once, allowing you to extend your stay up to an additional 30 days, for a maximum stay of 60 days.
You must leave Indonesia before the visa expires unless you’ve extended it legally through the proper immigration channels.
Can I apply for KITAS and KITAP in Indonesia?
The KITAS (temporary stay permit) is a permit that allows foreigners to live in Indonesia for 3 – 12 months depending on the purpose of the visit. Most typically, foreigners apply for a KITAS with 1-year validity. Most times, when the KITAS expires, it can be extended. There are several types of KITAS you can apply for according to the purpose of the visit, namely: Dependent KITAS, Working KITAS, Spouse KITAS, Investor and Retirement KITAS. The KITAP (Permanent stay permit) is a permit that allows foreigners to reside in Indonesia for 5 years. As with the KITAS, there are several different types, according to your purpose. Business Visa vs Working Visa
There are vast differences between a business and working visa application. A business visa is one of the visas used to aid your business visits, such as attending seminars and meetings. A working visa is sponsored by a local entity to let you work in Indonesia.
There are two types that are currently available: the Single Entry Visa (This visa has a maximum validity of 60 days and can only enter the country one time) or the Multiple Entry Visa, which has a validity of one year.

VOA Countries list
Indonesia offers Visa on Arrival (VOA) and e-Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) to citizens of many countries for tourism or business purposes. Eligible countries for VoA and VoA extension are subject to changes, and will be updated accordingly by the Official Immigration authorities.

Visa Exemption for Selected Countries
Travelers from selected countries may travel to Indonesia, including Bali, without a visa under a visa exemption arrangement established by the Indonesian government.
This policy primarily applies to nationals of ASEAN member states, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
This scheme allows them to enter Indonesia for tourism, family visits, or other short-term stays for up to 30 days without needing a visa. The visa exemption is non-extendable and cannot be converted into another type of stay permit.
