The Second home Visa Indonesia (KITAS) – Who is it for and what are the benefits?
The Indonesia’s second home visa is a new long-term visa program to provide a permit that allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia for up to 10 years, depending on specific conditions. The government officially launched this visa for individuals to engage in non-work related activities such as investment, tourism visits, and retirement.
An additional advantage of the Second Home Visa ITAS is the opportunity for visa holders to sponsor their immediate family members, including spouses, children, and parents, to apply for the Second Home Family Visa ITAS. This family visa allows them to enjoy the same duration of stay as the primary visa holder, fostering a sense of togetherness and facilitating a seamless experience for families relocating to Indonesia.
The visa has a term length of 5 or 10 years which is optional depending on preference. The initiative is meant to aid in bringing wealthy foreigners into Indonesia to help aid in building the economy.

Citing from a document published by the Ministry of Immigration, below are the key points to consider regarding the second home visa:
- Second Home Limited Stay Visa, hereinafter referred to as Second Home Visa, is a Visa not for work given to Foreigners and/or their families who reside in Indonesia for 5 (five) years or 10 (ten) years after fulfilling certain requirements.
- Second Home Limited Stay Permit, hereinafter referred to as Second Home ITAS, is a limited stay permit not in the context of work given to foreigners and/or their families to live in Indonesian territory for 5 (five) years or 10 (ten) years after fulfilling certain conditions.
- Permanent visa for Second Home hereinafter referred to as ITAP for Second Home, is a Permanent Residential Permit not in the context of work that is given to foreigners and/or their families to live in Indonesian territory for 5 (five) years or indefinitely after fulfilling certain requirements.
- Guarantor is a person or corporation responsible for the existence and activities of Foreigners to stay in Indonesian Territory.
- Property is assets in the form of land and buildings, as well as facilities and infrastructure that are an integral part of the intended land and/or buildings, namely land owned and buildings owned by foreigners following laws and regulations.
- Proof of Fund is several funds or properties owned by foreigners and recognized as proof of having an immigration guarantee.
- Companion is a foreigner who joins himself with a husband, wife, child, or parents holding a Second Home Visa or Second Home Visa.
Policies for Second Home Visa holders with followers:
- The holder of a Second Home Visa must report the original Proof of Funds in the form of a. Bank certificate/Proof of Indonesian Bank Account at a State Owned Bank; or b. Certificate of property ownership in Indonesia, to the Immigration Office issuing the Second Home Visa within a maximum period of 90 (ninety) days from the issuance date of the visa.
- The obligation referred to in number 1 is excluded for Followers.
- The holder of a Second Home Visa is required to submit valid and official documents of his followers as proof of having a family relationship translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator in Indonesia except in English in the form of:
- Marriage certificate or marriage book, for husband or wife from the permit holder or
- Birth certificate or family card stating that the Foreigner is the parent or child of the holder of the Second Home Visa, to the Immigration Office that issues the Second Home Stay Permit within a maximum period of 90 (ninety) days from the issuance date of the Second Home Stay Permit.
Ensuring you have proof of funds
Immigration may ask at any time to prove proof of funds from your Indonesian bank account, but failure to provide proof of funds may result in the cancellation of the visa for the foreigner and followers.
Other interesting information from the circular letter:
- Payment of PNBP Rates for Second Home Visas, Second Home ITAS and Re-entry Permits is payable outside the territory of Indonesia through the PNBP payment portal.
- If the PNBP payment portal is technically not yet possible to be implemented outside the territory of Indonesia, the payment of the PNBP Tariff for the Second Home Visa, Second Home ITAS and Re-entry Permit shall be made by the Guarantor in the territory of Indonesia.
- If the Second Home Visa expires, then the Second Home Visa of followers also ends.
- An extension of an ITAP is eligible as long as it meets the requirements based on laws and regulations by referring to the granting of an ITAP or an ITAS Status Change to an ITAP.
- Transfer of ITK to ITAS status for ex-WNI foreigners who are not in the context of regaining Indonesian citizenship, do not need to attach proof of information from the Head of Representative of the Republic of Indonesia regarding loss of Indonesian citizenship.
- Changing the status of a Second Home ITAS to a Second Home Permanent ITAP can be implemented provided that you have lived in Indonesia for at least 3 (three) years as the holder of a Second Home ITAS.
- Transition or change of residence permit resulting in a change of guarantor, must attach a statement of no objection and is willing to transfer the guarantee from the previous guarantor.
- Until a further decision is issued, the authorities will continue to provide services to holders of Residence Permits for Elderly International Tourists based on the previous regulations.
6 Steps to Get Your Second Home KITAS
- Provide all documentation related to the KITAS and we will verify to ensure a successful application.
- All documentation will be uploaded to the online immigration system. Once the visa is authorised the applicant will receive an e-visa (Electronic Visa), which they will need to print.
- The applicant may now enter Indonesia using an e-visa.
- Upon arrival to Indonesia, the applicant will need to do a biometric whereby; they take a profile photo, as well as provide fingerprints.
- The KITAS will be issued and given to the applicant within 3 days.
- Within 14 days of the KITAS issuance, you must register at the Civil Departments, whereby you will obtain your SKSKPS (Certificate of Family Formation of Temporary Residents) and STM (Police Certificate).

For sponsorship of followers. e.g. children the requirements are:
- Copy of passport with a minimum of 36 (thirty-six) months till expiration
- Recent colour photograph 4×6 (red background according to circular, white background according to immigration website)
- Letter from Sponsorship/Guarantor
- A valid Second Home Visa or Stay Permit of their husband, wife, children of parents
- Valid evidence of family relationship with Second home Visa Holder: Marriage certificate and Birth certificate in English
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Retirement Visa still available?
Information regarding this is conflicting, although it would appear the existing Retirement visas are going to be replaced. Please note, this information is based on conversations with Immigration offices, we cannot guarantee the result either way. We will update this article with new information about Retirement Visa when it is received.
Do you need a Guarantor/Sponsor to apply for The Second Home Visa (KITAS)?
Although the regulation states that guarantor is not mandatory to apply for a Second home visa, the Molina application system will still ask you to upload a guarantee letter from an individual or company.
